Slovenia to welcome digital nomads: who can apply for the new visa?
Share:
What is known about Slovenia’s new Digital Nomad Visa
Slovenia officially announced the details of its Digital Nomad Visa in July 2025. The legal basis for the visa was laid a year earlier, when the Slovenian government approved amendments to the Aliens Act in July 2024.
Validity. The visa will be valid for up to 12 months. It cannot be extended, but a new application may be submitted six months after the previous visa expires.
How to apply. Applications will open on November 21st, 2025. According to media reports, submissions will be accepted both either online and at a Slovenian embassy or consulate.
Who is eligible for Slovenia Digital Nomad Visa?
The visa will be available to third-country nationals — citizens of countries outside the European Union.
Key requirements for applicants include:
Working remotely for a company or clients based outside Slovenia.
Earning at least twice the national average net salary — around €3,200 per month. As of April 2025, the average net salary in Slovenia was €1,600.
Renting or buying property in Slovenia.
Holding valid health insurance.
Providing a criminal record certificate.
Family members may apply alongside the main applicant, though they will not be allowed to work in Slovenia. The exact list of eligible relatives has not yet been specified.
3 reasons to move to Slovenia
1. Freedom to travel across Europe. If you have a residence permit in Slovenia, you can travel freely for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen Area countries.
Slovenia borders Hungary, Croatia, Austria, and Italy. The closest cities in these neighbouring countries can be reached by car or train in just 1 to 3 hours.
2. Affordable cost of living. Average monthly living expenses in Slovenia start at €820, excluding rent. That’s 12% less than in nearby Italy and 26% cheaper than France.
3. Safe and comfortable place to live. Slovenia ranks 9th out of 163 countries on the 2025 Global Peace Index. The country has low crime rates and a stable political climate.
With clean air and excellent drinking water quality, Slovenia also ranks among the world’s top 25 most environmentally sustainable countries in Yale University’s Environmental Performance Index, EPI.

Popular Digital Nomad Visas in the EU
The key requirement for obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa is proving a stable income sourced from outside the host country. The specific income threshold varies, but it typically ranges up to €4,000 per month.
Most countries also require applicants to rent or buy property and hold valid health insurance.
